Acrylic and collage on cradled board · 84 x 59.5 cm (33 x 23 in)

Large-scale abstract painting. Weirs is a contemporary abstract painting inspired by the structures that shape the flow of the River Thames. Rather than depicting a specific location, the work explores the physical and visual impact of weirs on moving water – how they redirect flow into swirling eddies, fracture reflections, and compress the surface into planes that appear almost solid.

In deep greens and reds, punctuated by high-contrast white forms, the composition captures the tension between movement and structure. Collaged elements and layered acrylic create depth and texture, echoing the complexity of water as it is forced through narrow gaps and across engineered surfaces. The result is a dynamic visual field where light, motion and form continuously shift.

This piece offers strong visual presence while remaining non-representational, making it particularly suited to contemporary interiors. It works well in both private collections and curated commercial spaces, such as offices, hospitality environments or meeting areas, where artwork is needed to hold attention, invite interpretation and contribute to a considered atmosphere.
