Commissioning paintings
Abstract Art Commissions
I accept a limited number of painting commissions each year. At the moment, I can only accept UK-based requests.
Commissioning a painting is a collaborative process, grounded in dialogue and context. Whether for a private interior, a hospitality setting or a commercial space, the work begins with atmosphere. Light, scale, material surroundings and spatial rhythm are all considered carefully before the first layer is laid down.
My practice is rooted in water, landscape and the psychology of place. A commissioned work is not a replication of previous paintings, but a response to your specific environment, developed through layered acrylic and mixed media processes.
Each painting is built slowly, through accumulation and erosion, allowing surface and structure to emerge over time. For hotels, restaurants, offices and curated residential projects, rotating artwork can introduce renewed atmosphere without permanent commitment. It allows interiors to remain dynamic while still anchored by original work.
How a commission works
Conversation & Context
We begin with a discussion about the space. This may include photographs, dimensions, architectural details and an understanding of how the room is used. Scale and tonal balance are agreed at this stage.
A 50% deposit secures your place within my commission schedule and allows work to begin.
Development & Process
The painting develops in the studio through layered mark-making, adjustment and refinement. Where appropriate, progress updates are shared at key stages.
The work is guided by the agreed parameters, but retains the integrity and material language of my practice.
Completion & Installation
On completion, the remaining 50% balance is due prior to delivery. The work is then prepared and installed within your space.
The aim is always to create a painting that anchors the room and feels integral rather than applied.
Commissioned Work for Leasing
In some projects, a painting is conceived with leasing in mind from the outset.
This is particularly relevant for hospitality or commercial interiors where a space requires a precise response to scale, architecture and atmosphere, but long-term acquisition may follow later.
In these cases, the work is developed as a full commission, responding specifically to the site. The financial structure reflects both the creation of a bespoke piece and its intended lease period, allowing flexibility without compromising the integrity of the process.
This approach enables a space to benefit from a site-responsive, original painting while retaining adaptability over time.
If this pathway is of interest, it can be discussed during our initial conversation.
