Mixed media on paper · 29.5 x 29.5cm (12 x 12in)
Thames Summer I is an abstract artwork capturing the surge of colour, movement and activity that transforms the River Thames in summer. Part of a series of three related works, it reflects the seasonal shift from stillness to vibrancy, where light intensifies and the river becomes a site of constant motion.
Dark, weighty tones suggest the depth and presence of the water, forming a grounding contrast to flashes of pale blue, vivid red and bright yellow. These brighter elements evoke passing boats, clothing, reflections and the general rhythm of riverside life, without fixing the image to a single moment. Collage and mixed media processes build a layered surface that mirrors the complexity of what is seen, and half-seen, along the water’s edge.
More intimate in scale, the work offers a concentrated burst of energy and colour, making it well suited to smaller spaces or as part of a curated grouping. Its balance of contrast and vibrancy allows it to bring focus and visual interest to both residential interiors and commercial environments.
