Collage and mixed media on paper · 38 x 30 cm (15 x 12 in)
Cley to Blakeney is a contemporary abstract artwork inspired by the shifting coastal landscape of North Norfolk. Reed beds, shingle banks and dunes held together by marram grass create a dynamic edge between land and sea – a place shaped by wind, water and the constant movement of wildlife.
The work draws on the sensory richness of this environment: the call and motion of birds overhead, the textured ground underfoot, and the quiet pull of found objects along the shoreline. Earth-toned, organic forms reflect the natural materials of the coast, while subtle purples and blues evoke distant water, sky and atmosphere. Collage and mixed media techniques build a layered surface that echoes the accumulation of shells, sand and plant matter encountered along the walk.
More intimate in scale, this piece offers a quieter, textural presence, making it well suited to smaller spaces or as part of a grouped display. Its natural palette and abstract language allow it to sit comfortably in both residential interiors and thoughtfully curated commercial settings.
